We hope you are enjoying the arrival of spring. With the longer days and warmer weather, it's the perfect time to get outdoors and explore the beautiful events and activities happening around the country. Here are a few suggestions from Visit Denmark – you have the opportunity to visit many botanical gardens and even attend a Sakura Festival (experience both traditional and modern Japanese culture through performances on stage, amidst blossoming Sakura trees)!
In Aalborg, the International Staff Unit (ISU) is hosting a Diversity Storytelling Session on 6 May, where three colleagues from across the university will share their unique stories about cultural adaptation, career growth, and personal milestones. Each speaker will have around 15 minutes to tell their story, followed by a brief Q&A. Afterwards, we will wrap up with a networking session where you can build new connections. We kindly ask you to register via this link already now so that we can plan the practicalities. Apart from that, we also look forward to meeting you at our Lunch at AAU Innovate events.
On a practical note, in March 2025, the Danish Tax Agency released the tax assessment notice (årsopgørelsen) for the previous year. All citizens on the regular Danish taxation scheme receive a tax assessment notice, while those on the researcher taxation scheme do not. Regardless of your taxation scheme, if you live in Denmark and receive income or a pension from outside Denmark, remember to inform the Danish Tax Agency. If you are in doubt, kindly call the Danish Tax Agency directly.
Moreover, Easter is celebrated in Denmark in April. The university and most shops will be closed on the following public holidays: Maundy Thursday 17 April, Good Friday 18 April, Easter Sunday 20 April and Easter Monday 21 April.
In addition, on the first Wednesday in May at 12.00 hrs. the Danish authorities perform the annual test of the national warning system. This means that on Wednesday 7 May at 12.00 hrs. you will hear a number of sirens go off in your neighborhood – the first sound announces danger – the second sound announces that danger is over.
The national warning system is tested once a year to ensure that all residents are familiar with the siren signals.
Recently, the signal system has also been digitalized; so please do not worry if you receive a message on your smart phone on this day from “S!RENEN” – it is only a test.
Enjoy the holidays and take this time to relax and recharge!
We look forward to meeting you at our upcoming events 😊
